This page is in memory of Bailey, Ashby and Duncan, we have lost all three of them in the last three years to Cancer. We lost Bailey at age 8. He died 2 weeks after being diagnosed with Hermangiosarcoma. He was the reason I helped to start the National Canine Cancer Foundation. Bailey was a Show Dog Hall of Fame Champion Golden Retriever and my heart dog. I met so many people and went to so many places just because of him. We had such a bond. We have an orange tree in our backyard and he would pick and eat the oranges he could reach.

As he finished getting all the lower one he would get up on his back legs to reach the higher one. And then when the only ones left were too high up, he would sit under the tree until I came out. I would say "What do you want Bailey" and he would look up into the tree. And I would then get him an orange to eat. After he died, that tree did not grow any oranges for 3 years. I miss him every day. I miss them all every day.

We lost Ashby next. He was 9 and he died of a cancerous brain tumor.



Ashby was a dog who wanted to be a human. You could see it when he interacted with humans. We did not know he had a brain tumor at first and did not know that is why he whimpered some times because he used to whimper when he was young. I’m crying even while writing this because I still feel so bad that he was suffering and we did not know it. In his last days, Ashby was at the hospital staying overnight getting fluids and Ashby hated, really hated being away from home. The hospital called us and told us Ashby was in a coma and we need to come and let him go. When we got there and I saw that he was in the back in the kennels. I immediately said to them, he is not in a coma. He just wants to be home. They didn’t believe me but I picked him up and took him home while Sara paid the bill. So, I carried Ashby to the SUV. He was actually so weak he urinated all over me. But I put him the back of our SUV and drove home. He did not move. But then when I turned off toward our street I saw his head pick up and then when I turned on our street he sat up. I knew it; he just wanted to be home. So we got him home and loved on him assuring him he will stay home. For the next week he ate pizza and whatever he wanted, but we lost him at the end of that week.

Duncan was our most recent loss. He was only six year’s old, way too young. He also died of Hermangiosarcoma. I hate Cancer, and especially Hermangiosarcoma. Dunc, as we called him, was such a special dog. You just fell in love with him when he looked at you. He was so smart. You could see him thinking. And he loved his walks he did not like riding in the car but he loved her walks. He also was the only one of our Goldens who could jump off the diving board! We still to this day look over at his special spot on the couch looking out the window and remember how when we would look over at him or call his name he would not lift or move his head but just look over at us out of the corner of his eyes. That was out Dunc.
