| The purpose
of the Foundation’s Research Grant Program
is to encourage and provide grant support for basic,
pre-clinical and clinical research in high impact
and innovative cancer research, which is intended
to develop innovative approaches to a cure, treatment,
diagnosis or prevention of cancers in dogs. The
program fosters collaboration between basic and
clinical scientists with the intent of enhancing
the transfer of basic research findings to clinical
usefulness and eventually new treatments and cures.
Proposals are sought from researchers in a variety
of disciplines including but not limited to veterinary
researchers, geneticists, and molecular and other
biological scientists. Cooperative and collaborative
projects involving other investigators are encouraged.
Applications are sought proposing novel approaches
to the cure, prevention, diagnosis or treatment
of cancers. Proposals should be based on molecular,
cellular or integrated systems findings and be
conceptually innovative.

Grant
Information
The National Canine Cancer Foundation Research Grant Program was
established to encourage and provide grant support for basic, pre-clinical
and clinical research in high impact and innovative cancer research,
which is intended to develop innovative approaches to a cure, treatment,
diagnosis or prevention of cancers in dogs.
The program encourages collaboration between basic and clinical
scientists with the intent of enhancing the transfer of basic research
findings to clinical usefulness. The program fosters collaboration
between basic and clinical scientists with the intent of enhancing
the transfer of basic research findings to clinical usefulness and
eventually new treatments and ultimately cures for cancer in dogs.
Grant applicants should have a clear plan for the clinical exploitation
of the studies proposed and the results expected. This feature of
the proposal will be an important consideration of the review process.
The Foundation is also interested in breed specific proposals.
Researchers should clearly establish the significance of their
proposed research. Successful proposals will include information
and statistics, if available, regarding the impact of the health
problem on: 1) affected dogs and/or 2) breeds of dogs, and 3) the
canine population in general. This Program is intended to provide
support over an initial one to three-year period. Cooperative and
collaborative projects involving other investigators are encouraged.
With the high potential of clinical trials, a research grant may
be extended for two more years
Awards will be made for an initial three-year period; a renewal
for an additional two years may be available for projects of high
promise and that are entering or have entered the clinical trial
phase. Awards will be limited to an annual maximum of $250,000 of
which 11.1% may be used for institutional overhead. Budget requests
must be carefully justified and commensurate with the needs of the
project.
