Fur Fun Flyball Club Donates Raffle proceeds to NCCF

Louie-Louie is a standout on the flyball lanes for many reasons.  The Chinese Crested gets a lot of attention as he holds his own with the high-drive Border Collies and Shelties on his team.  What is not visible to spectators, who love to watch the spunky little Crested, is that Louie is a cancer survivor.

Louie's owner, Carol Mount, said she and her flyball club, Fur Fun, wanted to support NCCF - both for survivors and in honor of those who did not win the fight.  The event featured a large raffle with all items donated by club members, vendors and businesses.  Fur Fun gave 25 percent of its raffle proceeds to NCCF for a total donation of $850.00.

"Several of the Fur Fun team members have lost dogs to cancer and know the heartbreak of losing a dog too soon.  For now, Louie is winning the fight,"  Mount said.  "Support of NCCF, and any organization working to fight cancer in dogs, is essential to both dogs and humans."

The annual event drew more than 400 dogs from seven states, and 68 teams competed in the NAFA sanctioned competition.  Participants wore pink We Are the Cure wristbands in support of the cause.  A fund-raiser for NCCF will become an annual part of the Coconut Classic.

"Louie is in remission and is feeling better than ever,"  Mount said.  "It is important to support research that can help provide better guidelines for treatments and lifestyle changes, as well as the search for a cure."
