Camp Kitty Paws For the Cause 2010

Kamp Kitty held its second annual Paws for the Cause Canine Cancer Fund Raiser on February 13, 2010. We are a small group of friends who believe in positive dog training and having fun with our dogs. The fund raiser and the cause it supports are near and dear to our hearts. Shortly after cancer took my dear 8-Ball, it was suggested that Kamp Kitty might want to hold a fund raiser for canine cancer. We did some research on the different organizations supporting cancer research and held a brain storming session to come up with ideas. We had so much fun hosting the first event in 2009; we decided to make the fund raiser an annual event. This year we were worried about the weather and the forty-four inches of snow which fell in the week prior to the event. The 2010 fund raiser was a success raising more money than last year, with everyone having fun. This year’s event brought out dogs and handlers with serious cabin fever in need of something fun to do with their dogs, while helping raise funds for a good cause. Handlers and dogs participated in APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) and AKC (American Kennel Club) Rally Obedience run-thrus. The course was challenging and experienced rally competitors were on hand to help beginners learn more about rally and successfully negotiate their way around the course. Those attending had the opportunity to purchase tickets for a raffle, bid on silent auction items and play the instant win game. Just to name a few of the prizes, there were homemade dog treats (w/ingredients listed), beautiful handmade dumb bells, jewelry, embroidered rally sweatshirts, dog and people blankets, plus a Coach dog collar, crystal obedience pin, an iron dog statue, garden sculpture, picture frames, gift certificates for free training classes and a free dog message, a pup-tent full of goodies, weavepoles, wonderful bags and baskets stuffed full of goodies, and much, much more. All these items were generously donated to help raise funds. As the event drew to a close, bidding on some of the silent auction items grew furiously and the winners went home with some terrific prizes. Along with money raised on the day of the event, proceeds from a seminar held a Kamp Kitty were generously donated by the presenter and we were able to add funds raised by selling T-shirts and other items during the year.

We have started planning Kamp Kitty’s 2011 Canine Cancer Fund Raiser, which will be held on February 12, 2011
