Nestle was our Granddaughter. She was a nine year old chocolate lab. She
had been blind for about 3 years but still enjoyed life to the fullest. She
was always so happy. Our Son discovered a tumor behind her front lower teeth
on a Thursday night. He took her to the Vet the next morning. The Vet said
it was a cancerous tumor and that there was nothing he could do. Our Son took
Nestle home so that they could have a last weekend at the lake with her. By
Sunday the tumor had grown so big her tongue was hanging out of her mouth.
She had one last weekend that the kids made extra special for her. When they
took her back on Monday to be euthanized, the tumor had almost doubled in
size.
She never felt any pain though. They have a 12 year old black lab and he misses
her too. He had been watching over her and protecting her since she was a
puppy even more so when she lost her eye sight. They took many pictures of
her and once I get copies, I will send them to you.
Thank you for what you are doing. We have had many dogs over the years but fortunately none have had cancer until Nestle. We currently have a 2 year old Shar Pei mix and I worry about every imaginable thing that could happen to her. Our dogs are with us too short of a time as it is without being taken even sooner by cancer. Our Son took excellent care of Nestle with regular Vet visits, the best of dog food and lots of exercise. She had health problems since she was a baby. She had kidney problems and seizures before she went blind. It never crossed our minds that it would be cancer that took her.
