Kilimanjaro Climb For Canine Cancer Raises $1000!
Ericka Harrison recently lost her dog Ali to cancer.
She had Ali, a boxer, since she was 6 weeks old along with her big sister Brin. She decided she wanted to dedicate this climb in honor of Ali and also in hopes of raising awareness and money to help other dogs with cancer.
Below is her inspiring story in her own words.
"Ali's death was a major heartbreak to my family and I.I will never be able to explain what both Brin and Ali have meant to me over the last 8 years. They have definitely made me a better person and they've also been there to help cheer me up during the tough times. I can't imagine my life without Ali...but I am also SO thankful that I had the chance to be her mom. :) Both Brin and Ali are amazing dogs and they will always hold a piece of my heart.
I have always dedicated my daily jogs and races to Brin and Ali because they help to push me through when I'm getting tired. Just the thought of them makes me smile and seems to be all I need to keep on going. I had already planned to have them 'help' me climb up the mountain this September...I'm just happy to now be doing this climb for a cause in their honor.
The climb will be September 4th through the 12th on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. This mountain is 19,340 ft and is the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, rising 15,100 feet (4,600 meters) from its base. During this climb, we will pass through virtually every ecosystem on earth - glacier, snowfields, deserts, alpine moorland, savannah, and tropical jungle; all of which are found on the mountain. This will be the first 'major' climb I've ever done so I'm glad to have Ali 'pushing' me to the top!"
In addition to making the climb, Ericka also got engaged at the top!
